Character Interview: Lucas Montgomery from Jaded

‘Tis the season to be jolly, Fa-la-la-la-laaaa! Introducing Sissy Lu’s first festive Character Interview, featuring LUCAS MONTGOMERY from Jaded by K.M. Robinson. Grab a cup of eggnog or some wassail, but beware the mistletoe!

So, Sm… I mean Lucas, give us some small deets below!

Full name: Lucas Montgomery
Age: 21
Favorite Season: Summer
Favorite Cookie: Sugar Cookies
Favorite Hot Beverage: Hot apple cider

1. Why don’t you introduce yourself! Tell us who you are and what you do.

Hey there, I’m Lucas. I work for the Command as a politician. I took over my father’s job when he passed away. I work for the Commander and his son, Roan, taking care of my side of the country. What the Commander and my friend, Roan, don’t know is that I’m a double agent and my job is to make sure they don’t go through with their plan to murder Roan’s new wife, Jade.

2. What is your favorite thing to eat around the holidays?

Turkey and stuffing, with hot apple cider with a cinnamon stick in it.

3. What is on the top of your Wishlist this year?

The very top of my wish list is keeping Jade alive. Second to that, I think a new portfolio would be nice, or a fancy briefcase. I have to keep up appearances around the office, you know.

4. If you’re expected at a party are you usually on time or fashionably late?

Unless it’s going to hurt my professional reputation in some way, better to make an entrance.

5. What is your fondest memory surrounding the holiday season?

I always enjoyed quiet nights at home with my father. The night before Christmas, we’d open one present each and have cookies and hot drinks together. My father was a coco man, while I preferred hot apple cider.

6. Are you a fan of eggnog or no?

Sadly, no, I am not. I’m pretty sure the Commander is though…even more of a reason to avoid the disgusting stuff.

7. There is mistletoe hanging in the doorway… are you going to kiss the person beside you or not?

That is a distraction I can not afford and one that would call way too much attention to myself. I need to keep a low profile. Full disclosure though: I have found myself on the wrong end of mistletoe before. I don’t want to talk about it, but there was about a year I couldn’t shake a swarm of fifteen year old girls. What can I say, it’s the life of a fourteen year old.

8. It’s snowing outside, are you out there playing in it or refusing to step foot outside until the season turns?

Cold and I’m not a fan of snow. It hard to hide footprints. It’s also cold…and it’s in the way. I honestly don’t see a reason for snow; we do perfectly fine during the summer. Snow doesn’t help us. So what if it’s white and fluffy? So is the Commander’s dandruff but you don’t see anyone making a fuss about that…likely because, much like snow, the Commander can also kill you.

9. If you could ask for ANYTHING for Christmas, what would it be and why?

I would ask for someone to remove Commander Diamond from power…and give it to someone like Jade’s father, James Jareau. He and my father secretly led the rebellion together, but poor James was the only one that was caught. I’d love for someone to take the Commander out for what he’s trying to do to Jade.

I’d also like to be able to spend some time with Jade. I’ve been watching over her for so many years, I feel like we’re friends, but I’ve never actually been able to talk to her because no one can see us together.

10. What kind of shopper are you? Do you plan ahead of time or do you rush in a last-minute effort?

I’m a planner. I know every last thing down to the tiniest detail as far in advance as possible. I like to be prepared. I definitely make it look like I’m a last minute shopper though…appearances can be deceiving and I’m just the man for the job.

And depending on who I happen to be shopping for…your gift might double as a weapon, so watch out for that because I can’t tell you out loud. You’ll just have to guess and find out for yourself. PS, watch the poison, I can’t help you if you accidentally give it to yourself.

11. Did you ever believe in Santa? If so, how old were you when you stopped believing?

There was never any room for secrets or fairytales in my life. My job has always been to protect Jade. I might have spread a few stories about the guy though…like that time you heard you should leave your door unlocked so he could get in easier to leave you presents…that was me. I was on a mission, it was easier than breaking in—sue me.

12. Tell us one of your favorite stories that revolves around this season.

I never really believed Rudolph just happened to have something that drew attention to himself. The whole thing was far too convenient. I may or may not have inside information about him that suggests he was one heck of a spy. I’m not telling for whom though. Rudy knew how to play the public, that’s for sure! Nothing but respect.

13. Who in your immediate circle is most likely to go caroling?

Jade. Jade would definitely be the one to want to go caroling and she’d drag everyone along with her. Truth be told, I’d hate to hear Roan sing.

14. If you could cast your acquaintances [including yourself,] in Scrooge, who would play what roles?

Scrooge—Robert Diamond (although, the Commander would NEVER change) Usually he’d demand to be the good guy, but he’d rather be in the spotlight

Bob Cratchit—somehow, I feel like Roan would wind up playing the good guy *rolls eyes*

Tiny Tim—I’m sure the Commander would hold an audition at the school to find the most dedicated (to him) student and cast that kid in the role

Jacob Marley—Mr. Eroh would have a ball playing this one up

The Ghost of Christmas Past—James

The Ghost of Christmas Present—Jade

The Ghost of Christmas Future—me, definitely me. I’m bringing the reckoning, friends!

I’m also pretty sure we’re going to need roles for Annie and Erica too! They’re likely playing background characters in all of the scenes. Sophie would be behind the scenes, acting like a phantom, trying to drop chandeliers on the Commander’s head (which is why she and I get along so well!)

Truth be told….it might be a very different kind of Christmas Carol.

15. Is there anything else you’d like to tell us?

I wish you all the most magical Christmas with your friends and family! Hold the people you love close because not everyone gets to. And if you happen to see Roan Diamond walking down the street, get your kids to pelt him with snowballs for me. Don’t try it with the Commander though, that will like result in your imprisonment. Merry Christmas…and don’t forget to leave those doors unlocked for good old Santa Claus!! *wink wink*
